Global Food Safety and Well-Documented Pest Control

In a post 9-11 world, food safety is just one of the many topics that has become top-of-mind as we consider the security of the nation. As a result, a global food-safety standard has been adopted by the SQF (Safe Quality Food) Institute, recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative, and it is directly impacting the nature of food-processing industry audits. Not only are they more exacting, but they require more stringent documentation…in what was already an industry with strict documentation standards.

“Some of the large industrial food manufacturers, their sanitation practices are off the wall,” says Mark Rosenthal, Health Care and Food Processing Specialist for Western. “It’s all about their Quality Control processes internally.”

Others need a bit more assistance establishing maintenance and sanitation strategies that get them ahead of the game when it comes to audit standards. When clients have issues, Western’s service supervisors and technicians will help companies assess their master sanitation schedules. “Often, we’ll notice issues, such as drains being left off. It can be a forgotten area,” Rosenthal says.

Western recognizes the importance of smart sanitation and the documentation trail that proves it, and works with food-processing clients to help them prepare for increased scrutiny during third-party audits. Using ScanPro digital technology, Western’s clients see an advantage, with 24/7 monitoring, trend reports, and paperless records that are always on hand.
