Is Your Pest-Control Provider Properly Addressing Rodents?

Rodent control is a tricky proposition, requiring proactivity and persistence in the mission to eliminate rats and mice. Especially in cities like Philadelphia, factors that promote rodent populations can be complex, with issues underground and in adjacent properties contributing to challenges. If rats or mice continue to challenge your business, here are a few things to watch out for.

“With rodent control, it’s extremely important that monitoring stations are checked monthly,” says Tom Mayfield, Branch Manager in Newtown Square and Lancaster. “You also have to change the baits regularly, even though that takes time. It’s a step that pest-control companies sometimes skip.”

Mayfield describes Western’s strength as proactivity, with a company-wide emphasis on prevention rather than remediation. His advice: make sure your pest-control provider is using rodent-monitoring stations, especially in commercial kitchens. Pest control documentation is also key, providing the paper trail auditors demand in industries like hospitality and food processing.

“If you’re not receiving regular recommendations from your rodent control provider, that’s a problem,” Mayfield notes. “You want recommendations on sanitation, on what a clean building really looks like – as well as on structural enhancements that can stop rodents at the source.”
