With students back on college campuses after winter break, the focus is on new classes and planning for the future. Not in the plan are bed bugs, but unfortunately they’re also becoming a feature of the college-campus experience.
“We often see an increase in bed bugs calls a month or so after college breaks,” says Marc Buck, Western’s Randolph, NJ Branch Manager. “About a month later, we’ll see a spike in calls.”
Buck attributes college bed bug outbreaks – and their persistence – to the difficulty college and universities can have in achieving compliance with bed bug prevention, as well as treatment preparation. “We’ll often encounter an issue with cooperation or prep at colleges,” Buck says.
This puts universities under great pressure to find a bed bug control partner that will clearly articulate each and every step involved in the bed bug treatment process. As part of its commercial bed bug service, Western provides extensive bed bug treatment preparation checklists to help clients get ready before treatment. It’s just one of the ways we make client communication and partnership a cornerstone to our service approach.
