ThermoZone® Pest Control Attic Insulation

We have two insulation choices depending on what is best for your home and where the insulation will be installed. Our ThermoZone® Attic Insulation is an environmentally-responsible, blown-in cellulose that is treated with natural borates. Those borates help control pests – even eliminating some including ants, centipedes, cockroaches, crickets, millipedes, silverfish, stink bugs, and termites – and will actually freshen the air. It’s fire-retardant and is made from recycled materials.

Crawl Space Insulation

Our crawl space insulation is a specially designed fiberglass wrapped in a unique plastic barrier that is mold and mildew resistant while still allowing the product to breathe. Both choices will keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer – putting less strain on your HVAC system and as a result, helping to lower your energy bills. We can even put less strain on your budget with our Western Payment Plan. And don’t forget that cleanup of insulation that has been contaminated by pests should be done by a professional so you don’t negatively affect the air in your home. Let us help with our pest cleanup program.

How long does attic insulation last

Properly installed and kept safe from pests, blown-in attic insulation can last a long time – 25-30 years. Cellulose can last even longer.

How often should attic insulation be replaced

It’s less about how often than it is why should it be replaced. If you get moisture in your attic, you should check often for mold or mildew. If you see signs of pest droppings in insulation, you should get it replaced immediately. If you have inadequate insulation you should replace/add on to achieve the recommended R-Value.

Can insulation help control pests

There are natural borates that some insulation comes treated with that will help control pests like silverfish, centipedes, cockroaches, and more.

What does insulation cost

The cost of insulation depends on a few variables. How large is the area, what kind of insulation are you using, and the company doing the installing. It’s important to use a reputable company that is insured for this job, so keep that in mind when comparing estimates.

How does insulation help my energy bill

A properly insulated home keeps your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. No matter what the weather is outside, a properly insulated home keeps the outside weather from getting in, keeping your home’s temperature more consistent. This keeps your heating and cooling systems from having to shut on and off so much. Less strain on your heating and cooling system = energy bill savings!

Why should I update my insulation

It depends. If you are seeing pest droppings or urine stains, those can create animal-caused bacterial and fungal pathogens and their urine can cause mold. All of that can become airborne, eventually traveling into the main living areas of your home making you and your family sick. If you’re noticing your home is very drafty or exceptionally noisy, it may be time to update that insulation. Make sure you look into the state rebates on insulation before replacing. Don’t miss out!

What’s the best insulation

The best insulation is the right one for your home and your situation. There’s no one answer. It depends on where you’re insulating (attic, crawlspace, etc.), where you live (cold winters? humid summers?), and what you’re trying to achieve (pest control? noise reducing?). Just make sure you choose one with a proper R-value so you know it works.

What is R-value

Insulation ratings are measured in R-values per inch of thickness. An R-value tells you how well a type of insulation can keep heat from leaving or entering your home. Insulation R-values vary based on the type, thickness, and density of the insulation material. Typically, a higher insulation R rating means better climate control and better energy efficiency for your home. A higher insulation R-value usually means a higher price point as well.

How much insulation do I need

The amount of insulation recommended for your home will vary depending on a number of factors. For example, different climates require different insulation R-values. You will need a higher R-value of insulation if you live in the Northeast. Also, if your home is more than 10 years old, you likely need more insulation. It’s best to bring in a professional to inspect and assess. What if you find a bat in your attic? You don’t want to face that yourself!

How many kinds of insulation are there?

There are four basic types of insulation: Rolls and batts, cellulose, rigid foam, and polyurethane (or “foam-in-place”). They are used for different applications and areas of the home. Some will help with sound-proofing my home, some help control moisture in my crawlspace, and some will last longer than others. No matter which one you choose, make sure you have a professional do the installation. Insulation DIY idea: don’t do it.

“…we also decided to have new insulation and a mold inhibitor sprayed and a moisture barrier installed in our crawl space. Great price as well. I highly recommend Western Pest Services.”
