Whether we all abide by it or not, green living is the trend for the future. It's a movement that speaks to a growing commitment to manage our lives and our environment in ways that minimize harm to our planet but still allow us to live comfortably. For the staff and customers of Western Pest Services, it's a commitment we take seriously, and one that drives us to provide pest control products and services that have minimal impact to our environment but are still effective at "getting the bugs" out.
By adhering to Integrated Pest Management principles, we provide safe and effective pest control services that:
- Are comprehensive and environmentally-friendly
- Eliminate pest sources before they become a problem
- Minimize the use of pest control materials
Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, relies on a solid foundation of knowledge to implement effective treatments and interventions. By understanding the life cycles of various bugs and other pests and how they interact with their surroundings, we are able to manage their ability to inhabit places where humans work and reside with minimal impact to people, property, and the environment.
IPM Begins with Education
The initial focus of IPM is on proactive prevention of bugs and other pests by keeping them from ever having the initial opportunity to take up residence in your home. The reason for this is simple; in most cases, preventing pests is far easier than eliminating them. Your first meeting with one of our certified technicians begins with educating you about what attracts certain pests to take up residence. We will inspect your home with you and identify potential food sources, water and shelter for possible pests, and then teach you how to prevent infestations.
In the event that you already have a pest problem, our technicians will teach you about the causes of the pest problems, discuss potential interventions and then teach you preventative measures to help protect your home from further problems.
Defining what is Normal
IPM acknowledges that in any environment, some level of pest presence is normal and in most cases, is not harmful. Some types of pests can be very difficult to eradicate completely and our technicians will work with you to identify what level of pest presence is acceptable for you.
Certain people are more tolerant of pests than others but by setting individualized thresholds based on your unique needs, we can implement solutions and interventions that are best suited to you. Western advocates IPM principles in all of our service programs. Through education and observation, we identify when individual tolerance thresholds are breached and then actively address the problem while avoiding the use of potentially harmful pest control materials.
Our proactive approach serves a number of purposes:
- It makes you an active part of your own pest prevention
- It keeps your costs down
- It minimizes the need for potentially harmful pest control materials
