- Divert water away from your home by keeping drain spouts and gutters free of debris.
- Slope ground away from external walls to ensure proper moisture drainage away from the house.
- Fix any leaks in pipes and drains.
- Remove all wood debris such as tree roots and stumps that are in contact with the soil.
- Maintain a 6-inch boundary between the ground and any wood-bearing portions of your home, including siding, porch steps, lattices, and door and window frames.
- Store fire wood away from house and off the ground.
- Prune branches that touch your home or touch other objects in contact with your home, such as electrical lines.
- Avoid use of wood mulch near home foundations-use gravel instead.
