Wilmington Pest Pressure
The largest populated city in Delaware, Wilmington is home to thriving businesses and ideal conditions for pests to populate the area. Wilmington is known for cool winters and hot, humid summers, which results in increased pest activity, as they become more active during the summer months and some retreat into homes for winter. Coming to life in the warm months, mosquitoes lay eggs in still or slow-moving water and quickly multiply if left unchecked. Warm weather also invites stinging pests like wasps and hornets in and around homes. Nests may be found near roof eaves and in close proximity to human walkways, presenting problems for individuals prone to allergic reactions.
Wilmington pests can do more than just annoy homeowners. Pests like termites that damage wooden structures can cause significant financial burden. Other costly infestations include bed bugs, which invade bedrooms to feed on unconscious hosts during night hours. Other pests that multiply quickly and operate during the night are mice and rats. Spreading diseases through biological waste, rodents are a problem Wilmington residents should address immediately. Contact Western Pest for rodent and pest control services near you.

Box Elder Bugs Making Their Way Into Homes in Delaware
We recently met up with our Wilmington, Delaware Branch Manager who revealed that his office has received several calls from homes throughout his service area, especially in Wilmington, DE and Newark, DE regarding a not-so-common type of pest: the box elder bug.
Like stink bugs, box elder bugs often become a nuisance this time of year when they seek cracks and crevices that can provide them shelter during the colder months. They are generally not noticed during summer, but often can become an issue when they try to move into homes during fall as they search for overwintering sites.
Once these pests get inside your home, though, there is some consolation: box elders are harmless to you, your family, and your pets, and do not create damage, even if they’re a little intimidating to look at.
In the spring, box elder bugs nest and feed in trees including box elders (from which they get their name), maples, and ash.
When box elder bugs are not feeding in nearby trees, they are most commonly found in:
- Attics and wall voids
- Plants you bring in inside for the winter
- Outdoor furniture and umbrellas
- Potential entry points like cracks and gaps in your home’s exterior, including your chimney
- Insulation in basements and crawl spaces
- Stacked firewood next to your home
Once these pests get inside, it can be difficult to get them out without the help of a licensed pest professional. Please contact your local branch to remove them safely and professionally.
Bat Removal in Wilmington, DE
You may not realize it, but bat removal is a common necessity along the East Coast. These creatures of the night accidentally find their way indoors frequently and, if given the opportunity, they will come back year after year.
Western’s Regional Sales Manager, Paul Filardo, marked Wilmington, DE as a hotspot for bats. “We do a lot of bat work there. They’re often found in attics and many people don’t realize it. By that point, there can be a large number of them,” explains Filardo.
It’s important to note the safety requirements when dealing with bat removal. “You must remove them safely because they’re very beneficial for the environment,” says Filardo.

We have used three different pest control companies over the years and by far Western Pest has provided the best service out of the three. All of the technicians who have come to service our home have been professional, polite and friendly. They take time to answer questions and address concerns such as pet safety and organic gardening. They are quick to respond to any pest issues that arise. It's getting harder and harder to find companies that provide excellent customer service and quality work. Western Pest does, and at a reasonable price. We won't be switching companies again.

"Love" Western Pest
Western Pest is like the Mercedes Benz of pest control and surprisingly installation as well. There is no question about it you are professional and well worth it compared to all the fly by night companies that are out there. I was having issues with a house in Wilmington and talked to many other companies for both services. The house was very old had termites and literally no insulation in it. Greg, came out and was a professional making sure all my concerns were taken care of. Termites gone, house is warm again and heating bill dropped drastically. They blew insulation through the entire attic to ensure it was more than at the proper levels. Thank you Western for taking care of all my concerns both inside and out.....it is been more than worth it working with your team of professionals. You will always be my first choice and my only recommendation going forward. thank you.

We contracted Western approximately 30 years ago while living in Newark, Delaware, and continue to use them at our new house in Middletown, Delaware. We have the best exterminator, and his name is Kevin Brennen. Top notch. He has treated our previous home for ants, spiders, and termites. Since living in Middletown I have communicated whenever possible the outstanding job Western has done, and have created new business for them.

Western Pest Control Rocks in Wilmington!
I recently had the pleasure of meeting the amazing team from Western Pest Control. The professional care, passion and work ethic from each and every
member of the team was second to none - starting with their warm greeting at the door to wearing shoe covers & changing them each time they went in and out of my home (unbelievable)!!.
They did everything they promised from telling me that they would be back the next day to check the traps they set to spending time explaining everything in detail with great patience. They showed me the areas of concern and how they were going to treat the areas. This company is amazing!!.
Gregory Barnable, Kevin Brennan and Charlie Cannoy, thank you for going above and beyond with such class and professionalism - qualities very rarely found in the service industry today. You saved my sanity and restored peace and calm in my
home!! You are the very best !!

I had squirrels in my attic, and reached out to Western via the web for an estimate. Within hours I was called and had an appointment for later that week. The process for getting rid of the squirrels was explained thoroughly and within a week they were gone and my attic was squirrel-proofed. The people at Western know what they’re doing and get it done well.

We had one treatment so far, and though there was some miscommunication for our first appointment, when they came, he gentleman who helped us wasn’t very nice and honest. Admittedly, there are still more bugs in our house than we would like, so we will be using our unlimited visits with the subscription we chose.

We still have same Rodent problem
It is our understanding that your goal is to keep the area pest-free; however until now we still have the same issues with rodents in our attic since last Summer 2017. We paid a lot for rodent removal and still hear them in our ceiling walls in the middle of the night.
