Crawl Space Ventilation & Moisture Control

Your home is your sanctuary. And since 1928 Western Pest Services has been thinking of ways to protect it. Crawl space ventilation and moisture control are two more examples of how we do just that.

We know they’re not what you would think of as pest-controlling measures. They’re two steps ahead of that–they’re pest prevention. They eliminate harmful amounts of moisture in your crawl space.

This moisture, in addition to making your home a breeding ground for bugs and rodents, also makes it a breeding ground for many other dangerous and troublesome pests you never even imagined, like mold, mildew, radon gas, and odor.

With our innovative Moisture Control Program, our highly effective polyethylene moisture barriers, and our air circulating temp vents, there is a smart solution for every home. That’s because Western is committed to tackling every pest, even ones you can’t see.

How Your Crawl Space Works

Up to 40% of the air you breathe in your home comes up from your crawl space. With that in mind, shouldn’t you be more concerned about what is going on underneath your house? Western’s expertise can eliminate the mold, mildew, odor, radon gas, and insects that may be thriving in your crawl space.

You may not realize it, but as air is rising up and out of your home, the air that replaces it comes right from your crawl space, making it one of the most important spaces in your home.

This is known as the “stack effect”, a process where the air at the lowest point of the structure filters up through the crawl space floor, and moves up into where you and your family are living.

So while you may think that the contents of what’s beneath your home are less important than what’s in your primary living area, the two spaces may be overlapping more than you ever realized.

The Problems with Moisture

The biggest culprit in creating an unhealthy crawl space is moisture. Moisture is what allows mold, mildew, radon, and insects to thrive in your home and cohabitate with you and your family.

They can ruin your home’s wood framing, resulting in costly repairs. And besides the financial troubles that can arise from these nuisances, there are also health hazards that moisture can breed for your family as well.

Thankfully, Western has the know-how and commitment to combat these attacks against your home with programs that not only tackle existing problems, but can prevent them from being problems for your home in the future.

Western’s Moisture Control Program is an effective way to control moisture within your crawl space. The process includes the following steps:

  1. A detailed inspection
  2. Liquid treatment where necessary
  3. Removal of crawl space debris
  4. Install our polyethylene barriers that are custom-fit to your crawl space to keep moisture levels low
  5. Install our patented temp air vents or flood vents. They will open or close according to outside temperatures, which promotes healthy air circulation within your crawl space
  6. Check condition of crawl access door and replace if necessary

The Common Problem of Many Homes is Moisture

That includes wood decay and pest invasion. The Moisture Control Program keeps moisture content under 20% in your crawl space, preventing your home from a host of problems that excess moisture can cause.
