All About Stratford, CT

Stratford is a town in Fairfield County. It is situated on Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Housatonic River. Stratford was founded in 1639 by Puritan leader Reverend Adam Blakeman, William Beardsley, and either 16 families (according to legend) or approximately 35 families (suggested by later research) who had recently arrived in Connecticut from England seeking religious freedom. In 1639 the General Court in Hartford made reference to the town as the “new plantation at Pequannock.” In 1640 the community was known as Cupheag, a Native American Paugussett word meaning “at the enclosed place” or “place of shelter.” By April 13, 1643, the growing town was known as Stratford, changed to honor William Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon in England.

It’s no secret that Stratford has a rich history but it’s also a tourist destination. Make sure to go to Seawall Park. It’s not your run of the mill park! It’s a historical gathering place that is one of the most beautiful spots you’ll find in Stratford. Stroll through 16,500 feet of antiques at Stratford Antique Center. You’re sure to find a one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home with you. And don’t miss the National Helicopter Museum. This museum features a model of the first helicopter flight in Stratford in 1939, an actual Sikorsky S-76 cockpit, and a computer-based helicopter flight simulator. After all that fun, sit down for a delicious meal at The Sitting Duck Tavern. From the humble yet delectable rustic beans to the duck wings, you won’t be disappointed. Year round, people flock to Stratford to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Stratford, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest Control Services Near You

Properly controlling pests in Stratford, CT should be done on a local level. Stratford’s pest issues are different than Delaware’s and way different than New York City’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Western Pest Services. We have been servicing Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware for almost 100 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. As the Constitution State, Connecticut is known for having everything from beaches to cities to forests. Stratford is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Norwalk, CT branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wood areas around Longbrook Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. bag of dog food! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Stratford can help, including:

  • Bats
  • Bed bugs
  • Pest birds
