Detecting Bed Bug Activity
Bed bugs are parasitic insects that feed off the blood of unsuspecting hosts, and early detection of bed bug activity is key to eliminating the pests.
Bed Bug Dogs
Amazingly enough, dogs may be man’s best friend in this fight.
Bed bug dogs are able to detect both adults and eggs with relative efficiency and are much quicker than humans and pest control tools. This is due to the canine’s keen sense of smell and specialized training.
Bed bug dogs, led by a professional handler, are typically able to find collections of the pest where they’re primed and ready to cause problems.
Targeting Infestations Early
The sooner bed bug activity is detected, the better. Bed bugs are easier to eradicate in their early stages.
The appearance of tiny red bites, similar to those inflicted by mosquitoes, is the first indication that bed bugs are present.
Other warning signs include:
- Rust-colored stains on bed sheets or mattresses.
- Dark spots on walls that look like pencil dots but are actually bed bug excrement.
- Pale yellow skins left over by the molting insects.
Once bed bug activity is suspected, contact a trained pest professional to eliminate the problem.
