Silverfish in Bed

Finding Silverfish in Beds

Although they prefer places like bathrooms and closets, it is possible to find silverfish bugs in beds. These insects are about half an inch in length with silver teardrop-shaped bodies and long antennae. While they’re more annoying than harmful, these pests can damage bedding.

Silverfish in Bedrooms

Silverfish enjoy moist, cool, and dark spaces. While they usually stick to basements and pantries, these pests may move into your bedroom under the right conditions. Known to feed on carbohydrates and protein, this insect may try to make a meal out of your linens. Starched sheets can become damp from perspiration and humidity, making them the perfect hiding place.

Signs of a Silverfish Infestation

Fabric with small, irregular holes, as well as yellowish stains and black pepper-like specks, are the hallmarks of silverfish in bedrooms. These pests have tiny mouths and weak mandibles, so they cannot bite you. Instead, they scrape at the surface of fabrics and paper, eating one section at a time.

Even though these insects won’t harm you, they are a nuisance. If left unchecked, silverfish can cause lasting damage to textiles, books, and wallpaper. If you spot silverfish in the bed or anywhere else in your home, contact Western Pest Services and speak with an expert.
