When the recent Nor’easter swept through the Northeast at the end of February, some areas saw nearly two feet of snow, bringing daily routines to a standstill. In part of New York, roads were buried, neighborhoods were quiet, and many families were left waiting for plows to clear a path forward.
Out of our New York branch, one teammate didn’t wait. After the storm passed, Service Supervisor, Michael Scimeca, found that his street in Staten Island remained snowed in for nearly 24 hours. Instead of assuming someone else would handle it, Mike grabbed a shovel and got to work. He cleared the road himself, making sure he and his neighbors could safely get out the next morning.
It was a simple act, but one that speaks volumes. Mike’s actions reflect what it means to be remarkable and stepping up when it matters. He saw a problem and took it into his own hands to make a difference not just for himself, but for everyone around him (literally). That mindset of accountability, initiative, and thoughtfulness for the community is what strengthens our teams and the neighborhoods we serve.
Western is proud to have teammates like Mike who leads by example, shows up for others, and turns everyday moments into meaningful impact.
